Breaking in the new Buggy right!

Beating the Heat: Maiden Voyage on Wild West Trail in Cedar City, Utah

It’s July in southwest Utah, and that means one thing — triple-digit temperatures. But what better way to test a buggy build than in the heat? For the Fourth of July weekend, we decided to take our latest creation out of the shop and into the wild.

Cedar City, Utah — located just north of the scorching St. George area — has a rich history of extreme rock crawling. The temps there are slightly cooler, making it a perfect testing ground. We headed for the Wild West Trail, just west of Cedar City, for the buggy’s maiden voyage.

This trail is a blast — winding through the bottom of a canyon with plenty of boulder crawling and just enough tree cover to provide some relief from the sun. It’s a solid trail for testing under hot conditions without risking heat stroke.

The buggy performed exactly as expected — flawlessly. The trail was packed with riders all day, adding to the fun and energy of the ride. Bryce took the wheel solo, and it took him 1 hour and 40 minutes to cover just 2.3 miles. He made a few stops to grab photos along the way, but it’s a great reminder of how technical and demanding these trails can be — especially when crawling solo.

Driving a rear-steer vehicle adds a whole new level of control and fun. You start to feel like you’re one with the machine, and this buggy made it easy to adjust and feel at home. The LS3 V8 — courtesy of Turnkey Engine Supply — runs incredibly smooth and delivers a throaty canyon-echoing rumble when you want it to.

It’s paired with a Maximum Reid Turbo 400 transmission and an Advance Adapters 4.3:1 two-speed transfer case — a combo that shifts seamlessly and handles power without breaking a sweat. The driveshafts from Drive Line Tech not only look the part but performed exactly as expected.

We’re also running 40-spline Spydertrax axles — some of the toughest in the industry. They took every hit and challenge we threw at them without complaint. When you’re building a buggy, reliable axles are everything — no one wants to wrench on the trail.

The rig walked the trail confidently and didn’t miss a beat. We’re running Trail Ready wheels wrapped in BFG Red Label 42x20s, and the grip on those canyon boulders was unreal — they clawed up and over everything in sight.

As the sun set, we flipped on the rock lights, chase light bar, and LP6 headlights, which lit up the night for a smooth ride back. There’s nothing better than a buggy that performs flawlessly on the trail — and still drives on and off the trailer without a single hiccup.

Here are a few shots we grabbed during the run — stay tuned for more trail updates and builds coming soon!

Top 10 Jeep Accessories Every Trail-Lover Needs for Their Next Off-Road Adventure

Jeep owners know that heading off the beaten path is more than just a weekend activity—it’s a way of life. Whether you’re conquering muddy trails, climbing rocky terrain, or camping under the stars, your Jeep is your trusty sidekick through it all. But to make the most of your off-road adventure, you’ll need the right equipment. From safety essentials to gear that enhances your Jeep’s rugged capabilities, the right accessories can make or break your off-roading experience.

Here’s a list of the top 10 Jeep accessories every trail-lover should consider before their next adventure.

All-Terrain Tires

Your Jeep’s tires are the foundation of any off-road trip. All-terrain tires provide the grip and durability you need to tackle mud, rocks, snow, and sand. Look for options like the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2, known for its versatility and toughness.

Why It’s Essential

All-terrain tires improve traction and minimize damage to both your Jeep and the trail, making them one of the most crucial upgrades for any off-roading enthusiast.

High-Performance Winch

You never know what challenges a trail might throw at you. A high-quality winch can pull your Jeep (or a fellow adventurer’s vehicle) out of serious trouble—whether you’re stuck in the mud or facing a steep incline.

Why It’s Essential

A winch is your safety net in those “what now?” situations. It’s a reliable tool to have on hand for emergencies and tough terrain.

Off-Road Lights

When trails extend past sundown, you’ll want off-road lights to illuminate the way. Powerful LED light bars or spotlights, such as those from Baja Designs, can turn nighttime obstacles into easy challenges.

Why It’s Essential

Enhanced visibility improves safety and makes night-time trail driving more enjoyable.

Heavy-Duty Floor Mats

Off-roading means tracking in mud, sand, water, and everything in between. Heavy-duty floor mats like WeatherTech or Husky Liners guard your Jeep’s interior against the mess.

Why It’s Essential

They protect your investment by keeping your Jeep’s interior clean and damage-free, no matter how dirty the trails get.

Roof Rack or Cargo Basket

For adventurers who love to pack camping gear or additional supplies, a roof rack or cargo basket is a game-changer. Brands like Thule and Rhino Rack offer durable, easy-to-install options.

Why It’s Essential

It expands your storage space, letting you bring everything needed for extended trips while keeping your Jeep’s interior uncluttered.

Snorkel Kit

For water crossings or dusty environments, a snorkel kit ensures your Jeep’s engine gets clean, dry air. Models from ARB or Rugged Ridge are popular among off-road enthusiasts.

Why It’s Essential

A snorkel protects your engine from water damage and improves performance in dusty conditions, making it invaluable for adventurous terrain.

Skid Plates

Rocky trails can take a toll on your Jeep’s undercarriage. Skid plates offer protection for vital components like the oil pan, fuel tank, and transfer case.

Why It’s Essential

They act as armor for your Jeep, preventing costly damage during treacherous off-road rides.

Recovery Gear Kit

No matter how experienced you are, getting stuck is inevitable. A recovery gear kit, which includes tow straps, D-shackles, and gloves, gives you the tools to get moving again.

Why It’s Essential

It ensures you’re prepared for the unexpected and enables safe recoveries without damaging your Jeep.

Off-Road Suspension Lift Kit

A suspension lift kit increases your ground clearance, allowing your Jeep to handle larger obstacles with ease. Options like the Rough Country N3 or Teraflex lift kits are great for both beginner and veteran off-roaders.

Why It’s Essential

It improves off-road performance by providing better ground clearance, articulation, and an aggressive stance.

Portable Air Compressor

When you’re ready to air down your tires for better traction or inflate them after the adventure, a portable air compressor like the ARB Twin Compressor gets the job done.

Why It’s Essential

Maintaining the correct tire pressure is key for both off-road control and highway performance. A portable compressor ensures you’re self-reliant.

Top 5 Accessories for Overlanding Your Vehicle

Top 5 Accessories for Overlanding Your Vehicle

Overlanding is more than just a hobby—it’s a way of exploring the world with the freedom to go just about anywhere. However, to make your overlanding adventures efficient, comfortable, and safe, your vehicle needs to be properly equipped.

Whether you’re heading out for a weekend road trip or embarking on a multi-week expedition, having the right gear can make all the difference. Here are the top five must-have accessories to prepare your ride for the ultimate off-grid adventure.

Roof Rack

A sturdy roof rack is essential for overlanding. This accessory allows you to maximize your vehicle’s storage space by carrying bulky items like tents, water jugs, or even extra fuel. Look for a rack designed specifically for your vehicle’s make and model to ensure it fits securely and can handle the weight of your gear.

Pro Tip: Invest in a modular roof rack system so you can easily change attachments for carrying bikes, kayaks, or other adventure gear.

All-Terrain Tires

Standard car tires won’t cut it when you’re traversing rugged trails, rocky paths, or sandy deserts. All-terrain tires provide the sturdiness and grip necessary to tackle off-road surfaces safely. Make sure to choose tires designed for your specific vehicle and its weight to optimize durability and efficiency.

Why it’s important: Quality tires don’t just improve off-road performance—they ensure your safety and help you avoid getting stuck in tough conditions.

Portable Recovery Kit

Even the most experienced overlanders can run into trouble on the trail. A high-quality recovery kit is your best friend when you’re stuck in mud, sand, or snow in a remote area. Look for a kit that includes a winch, tow straps, D-ring shackles, gloves, and a snatch block.

Must-have feature: If you’re frequently solo traveling, pair your recovery kit with a portable winch for added self-reliance.

Roof-Top Tent

There’s no overlanding experience quite like camping under the stars. Roof-top tents offer the convenience of a safe, elevated sleeping space that’s quick to set up and keeps you off the ground. With robust materials designed for all weather, these tents are perfect for remote environments.

Bonus: Most models come with comfortable mattresses, so you’ll sleep soundly even in the wild!

Fridge/Freezer Combo

Forget the days of relying solely on coolers full of melting ice. A portable fridge/freezer is a game-changer for overlanders, keeping your food fresh and your beverages cold no matter how long you’re off-grid. Choose a unit with an energy-efficient design that runs on your vehicle’s battery or a portable power source.

Added perk: Many models are designed to be compact but spacious enough to store meals for extended trips.

Top 5 Must-Have Accessories for Jeep Off-Roading Adventures

Top 5 Must-Have Accessories for Jeep Off-Roading Adventures

Off-roading isn’t just a thrill; it’s a lifestyle. Jeep owners know that every trail, from rugged mountain paths to muddy valleys, is an open invitation to adventure. But before heading off the beaten path, having the right gear isn’t just convenient—it’s essential for safety, comfort, and maximizing the fun.

Whether you’re an off-road newbie or a seasoned trailblazer, here are the top 5 must-have accessories to take your Jeep off-roading adventures to the next level.

All-Terrain Tires

Your Jeep might be trail-rated, but even the most capable rig needs the right footwear. All-terrain (AT) tires are a game-changer when it comes to off-roading:

  • Why You Need Them: They provide traction on loose dirt, mud, sand, and rocky surfaces while still being usable on highways.
  • Pro Tip: Opt for tires with reinforced sidewalls to prevent punctures on sharp rocks. Brands like BFGoodrich and Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac are top picks for consistent performance.

Investing in high-quality all-terrain tires ensures that you’re ready for any challenge, no matter where the trail leads.

Recovery Gear

Off-roading is all about pushing limits—and that might mean getting stuck in the mud or caught on a rock. This is why recovery gear is non-negotiable:

  • What You’ll Need: A sturdy winch, recovery straps with high tensile strength, and durable D-ring shackles. These can help you or a fellow adventurer get unstuck quickly.
  • Why It Matters: Having recovery gear ensures you’re prepared for unexpected obstacles and can help prevent bigger problems.

For serious off-roaders, a waterproof winch like WARN’s Zeon series is essential (and worth every penny).

Skid Plates

When tackling uneven terrain, protecting your Jeep’s underside is crucial. Skid plates safeguard essential components like your oil pan, gas tank, and transfer case from rocks, debris, and unexpected drops.

  • Why You Need Them: Jeep components like the differential are relatively exposed and can be damaged easily during off-roading. Skid plates add an extra layer of armor.
  • Best Recommendation: Steel or aluminum plates provide maximum protection without significantly adding weight.

If you’re serious about off-roading, this investment pays for itself in reduced repair bills.

LED Light Bars

Off-road trails don’t always stick to a 9-to-5 schedule. For navigating trails after sunset or during poor weather conditions, LED light bars make a huge difference.

  • What to Look For: High-lumen output, wide-angle beams, and durability against water and dust.
  • Upgrade Tip: Position a long light bar on your Jeep’s roof rack and smaller cube LEDs near the front bumper for wider coverage.

Not only do they look ruggedly cool, but they’re also indispensable safety features for nighttime adventures.

Off-Road Jack

Flat tire? No problem! Uneven terrain can make changing a tire a tricky task, but an off-road jack is specifically designed to make the process easier.

  • Best Choice: A Hi-Lift jack allows you to lift your Jeep from high clearance points, unlike standard jacks that struggle on uneven surfaces.
  • Bonus Use: They can double as a tool for winching in emergencies.

Make sure you pair your jack with a solid base plate if you’re working on soft ground like sand or mud.

Bonus Tip: Stay Prepared with These Extras

While these five accessories are game-changers, don’t overlook a few other essentials:

  • A portable air compressor for adjusting tire pressure on the go.
  • A solid first-aid kit because safety always comes first.
  • A roof rack for extra storage, making sure you have room for camping gear, tools, and other essentials.

Best Off-Road Parts for Upgrading Your Ford &Toyota Model

Off-roading is not just a hobby; it’s a lifestyle, an adventure, and a challenge that requires the right preparation. If you own a Ford or Toyota and are ready to take your off-road escapades to the next level, investing in top-quality off-road parts is essential. Whether you’re tackling rocky hills, mud trails, or desert sand, having the right equipment ensures better performance, safety, and an unforgettable experience. Below, we’ll explore some game-changing upgrades to transform your ride into the ultimate off-road powerhouse.

Off-Road Tires and Wheels

When it comes to off-roading, the condition and type of tires on your vehicle can make or break your adventure. Off-road tires are engineered to provide better traction, durability, and performance on unpredictable terrain. Unlike standard tires, they feature tougher sidewalls and unique tread patterns to handle rocky paths, muddy surfaces, and sandy dunes with ease.

Some popular off-road tire options include all-terrain (AT) and mud-terrain (MT) tires, with the latter offering superior grip in extreme mud or off-piste conditions. Additionally, pairing these tires with robust wheels designed to withstand impact ensures optimal performance and reduces the risk of damage. Durability is key when heading off the beaten path, and upgrading your Ford or Toyota’s tires and wheels is the first step toward conquering any trail.

Upgraded Lighting Kits

Off-roading doesn’t always happen during daylight hours. For nighttime explorations or low-visibility conditions, installing advanced lighting systems is a crucial upgrade. High-performance lighting kits improve visibility, safety, and the overall experience when navigating dark trails or challenging weather.

Options like LED light bars, fog lights, and spotlights are among the cutting-edge solutions available. LED light bars, in particular, provide broad illumination, making it easier to spot obstacles and plan your route. Fog lights are invaluable in situations with poor weather conditions like heavy rain or fog. By upgrading your lighting system, you’ll have the confidence to conquer trails at any hour, knowing you have a clear view of what lies ahead.

Heavy-Duty Bumpers and Skid Plates

When exploring rugged terrain, your vehicle’s underbody and front-end structure are constantly exposed to the risk of damage from rocks, logs, and other hazards. Adding heavy-duty bumpers and skid plates offers an essential layer of protection against these obstacles.

Heavy-duty bumpers guard the front and rear of your Ford or Toyota, reducing impact damage and providing better functionality, such as the ability to add winches and tow hooks. On the other hand, skid plates protect the delicate components of your undercarriage, such as the oil pan, transmission, and fuel tank. With these upgrades, you can venture into even the harshest environments without worrying about the integrity of your vehicle’s critical parts.

Why Customize Your Ford or Toyota for Off-Roading?

Customizing your Ford or Toyota with high-quality off-road parts not only makes your vehicle more capable but also enhances your overall experience on the trail. Superior tires and wheels improve traction and durability, while advanced lighting systems provide the visibility needed for safe and confident night driving. Heavy-duty bumpers and skid plates ensure you can tackle rugged terrain without worrying about damaging essential vehicle components.

Investing in these modifications tailors your vehicle to your off-roading needs, allowing you to take on challenges with ease. Whether you’re an occasional off-roader or a seasoned adventurer, having the right equipment transforms the way you connect with the outdoors. Why Quality Flag Mounts & Brackets Matter | Red Dot Engineering

When it comes to flying your flag proudly, selecting the right flag mounts and brackets is an essential step. Quality mounts and brackets not only ensure that your flag stays secure and vibrant but also provide long-term durability and safety under various conditions. This guide will take you through the key considerations for choosing the best flag mounts and brackets, ensuring you make an informed decision that combines performance, durability, and value.

Durability Matters for Long-Term Performance

Durability is a critical feature to look for in flag mounts and brackets. Exposure to elements such as wind, rain, and sunlight can quickly wear down poorly made products, leading to premature failure. High-quality materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, or reinforced polymers are designed to withstand the harshest conditions, ensuring your flag mount remains sturdy and reliable for years to come.

For example, stainless steel brackets resist rust and corrosion, making them ideal for outdoor settings with fluctuating weather patterns. Aluminum offers a great balance of strength and weight, allowing easy maintenance without compromising durability. These materials not only extend the life of your equipment but also reduce the cost of replacements in the long run. Investing in superior materials today will save you from the hassle of frequent fixes and ensure that your flag-flying experience remains worry-free.

Elevated Quality Through Superior Materials

The quality of construction materials is key to how well your flag mount and bracket perform over time. Premium materials ensure durability and stability, even in tough conditions. Brackets made from heavy-duty aluminum or stainless steel resist rust, corrosion, and bending, making them ideal for indoor or outdoor use. Finishes like powder coating or weather-resistant paint add protection from UV rays, saltwater, and environmental wear, which is crucial in regions with extreme weather.

For vehicle or marine use, brackets made with anodized aluminum or high-grade stainless steel, combined with protective coatings, excel against high-speed air resistance and constant moisture exposure. These designs often include enhanced mounting systems to stay secure in challenging conditions.

By choosing strong, durable, and wear-resistant materials, you can trust your flag mount and bracket to last. Whether on a boat, car, or backyard pole, investing in quality ensures your flag stays securely in place for years to come.

Professional Craftsmanship and Design

Craftsmanship is key to the reliability of flag mounts and brackets. Superior design ensures both a polished look and lasting functionality. Innovative, stable, and easy-to-use designs make mounting easier while ensuring long-term performance.

For example, mounts with adjustable angles and secure locks offer versatility, letting you display your flag at different heights or orientations without losing stability. Designs for high-speed vehicles or windy areas often include reinforced anchors or aerodynamic shapes for better performance. These specialized products consistently outperform generic options in tough conditions.

Well-designed brackets are also easier to install, reducing errors and ensuring a secure fit. Whether mounting on a vehicle, wall, or flagpole, thoughtful design enhances the user experience and overall success.

Safety and Performance First

Safety should be a top priority when choosing flag mounts and brackets. Poorly made products risk detachment, loosening, or failure, which can cause property damage or injuries. Quality mounts reduce these risks, offering security and stability even in tough conditions.

Vehicle mounts, for instance, must handle wind pressure at high speeds, while outdoor mounts need secure fittings to withstand strong winds. Without durable construction, brackets may fail, creating safety hazards.

Reliable flag mounts ensure consistent performance, making it easy to display your flag daily or during special events. By choosing products tested for quality and safety, you can fly your flag proudly and worry-free.
