Red Dot Engineering: What We Do
Producing World Class Buggies & 4×4 Parts
The Red Dot Engineering Story
Red Dot Engineering was founded by Kevin Carrol and it was definitely his passion business. The Dixie Team met Kevin Carrol in 2017 when Dixie owner Albert Wada (buggy enthusiast) introduced everyone after a conversation about opening a Dixie location in Moab, Utah. Kevin with all of his enthusiasm for off-road and really anything motorsports related he convinced Dixie to set up shop in Moab opening in January 2018.
Kevin was always showing up to the shop riding his motorcycle or rolling by out front in a plane. There wasn’t any type of motorsport that Kevin didn’t love and he pushed them all to the extreme. Kevin sadly passed away in 2019 flying his plane in Moab Utah.
Kevin’s only son, Cody Larsen happened to be Dixie owner Bryce Thompson’s long time childhood friend who also shared a passion for all things adventurous. After Kevin’s passing Cody and Bryce were able to reconnect in Moab, Utah and began the conversation of the future of Red Dot Engineering. Cody had watched what was a run down little building with a dirt parking lot turn into what is now the Dixie 4 Wheel Drive state of the art facility and turning out some of the nicest 4 wheel drive builds in the country. Knowing that Dixie knew the passion that Kevin had for his little company and seeing how much passion Dixie puts into its own Cody offered to sell Red Dot Engineering to Dixie 4 Wheel Drive in 2021.
Building The Best Buggies
When it came to Kevin’s buggies only the best was good enough. Red Dot cars are built to perform and Kevin would always put them to the test crawling some of the toughest boulder canyons across the Moab area and the Western United States.
The goal was to be reliable, known to work, and known to hold up. As far as the chassis go, hands down, the craftsmanship of the chassis is the nicest in the rock crawling world! Short of a one-off, any mass produced buggy is all MIG welded instead of TIG welded, but not even dual-passed and not even comparable. You won’t find a junkyard motor in a Red Dot car or a cheap winch for a suck down winch. Kevin knew that a Warn RC was a proven race winch so that was what you were going to find on his cars.
Kevin by far changed the rock crawling game in regards to not cutting corners on costs. Most people think, hey, it’s a rock crawler, it’ll do well enough. His was better balance, better geometry, and better performance all around.
Over the years Red Dot cars have proven themselves and we are proud to be able to carry on Kevin’s legacy and continue to produce the cars that he created.
In Memory Of The Founder
Kevin Carroll - Founder - Passed On June 30 2019
“He was the kind of person who would walk into a café as a stranger and walk out with two new friends who were going to go riding with him or maybe build something.”
